Can I use the RFXCOM RFXmitter?

This is the place to ask questions about using xPL - whether that's installing the software or getting your hardware working.

Can I use the RFXCOM RFXmitter?

Postby egil » Thu Mar 04, 2010 7:16 am

Being totally new to the subject, I wanted a 433MHz transmitter to control some devices for my homebrew Linux system. Somewhat hastily it now may appear, I chose the RFXCOM RFXMitter over the ordinary one since it supported some devices I have, and also since it said it supported xPL, an open protocol. However, researching the subject more thoroughly, uncertainty and doubt is starting to appear. My suspicion is now that the actual protocol for RFXmitter is under NDA, and that the only way of getting xPL running with RFXmitter is to use the XPL MONKEY driver under Windows http://www.xplmonkey.com/rf.html

Can anyone clarify, please?

Sincerely,

Hi

I use xpl - perl packages on a linux box. Works for my RFXCom device.

Also xPL4Java for the HAL module

Have fun,

I did an xPL RFXCOM receiver gateway with Bert's feedback for Linux. As the RFXmitter is 433MHZ and I am in the states there isn't very much need so I didn't support it. I would be willing to add support for that device if I had some testers who would be willing to give me feedback and if Bert was willing to provide protocol support.

Thanks,
Greg

Thanks, but are you indeed sure you are using the RFXmitter (sic), and not the standard RFXCom transmitter? xpl-perl seems like a marvelous package, but as far as I can make out, it only supports the standard transmitter.

I don't have any rfx stuff myself, but their site states;
This RFXmitter can only be used by the Homeseer RFXCOM plug-in or xPL!

And for their xPL stuff they only link to xPL Monkey, so I guess you need to move over to windows or alternatively try to switch devices.

The only real difference with the RFXMitter is that you need to send all messages in their native format, rather than as X10 messages that the transmitter then translates for you.

Did you not get the message protocols for writing the receiver support? Or maybe you only got the US ones?
